" Are we as a species evolving toward the best in ourselves or the worst? Let's not lose sight of who we are and who we wish to be. "
― Laurence Overmire , The One Idea That Saves The World: A Message of Hope in a Time of Crisis
" No one is going to save the world by hating other people. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be angry about all the wrongdoing. Anger, however, is not the same as hate, though people often equate the two. Anger can be channeled into positive action, as a force for good. When our hearts are in the right place, we are working for the benefit of all humanity. "
" What is really important is not what we believe to be true in our heads, but what we know to be true in our hearts: love. In other words, if a person is loving and kind, that ought to be enough to connect with one another and work together for the sake of all of our children. We need to care about all human beings, all life on the planet, and the planet itself. That’s where we have to agree. "
" We must value truth. We must demand honesty and integrity from our leaders, the media, our businesses and our institutions and hold them accountable when they fail. "
" With every animal species that fades to extinction, one more opportunity is lost from the realm of human growth and possibility. "
" Despite our differences, I consider everyone with a good heart to be my ally in creating a better, more peaceful world. "
" Raising consciousness involves confronting people with issues and truths that they have not really considered before. Many of these truths are uncomfortable and disturbing, but unless we confront them and look for a remedy, humanity cannot move forward. "
" If we are going to get any real change, we need to elect honest, compassionate politicians with integrity, who truly care about all the people. "
" The cure for much of what ails our society is active citizen participation. Those who don't care, those who do nothing, bear enormous responsibility for the suffering in the world. "
" At the highest level of consciousness, you no longer see yourself as separate, you become one with all things, for that is the truth of the Universe. "
" The moral high road is always about love, compassion, kindness and generosity. "
" There are essentially two different philosophies at play in our politics: one that says, we are all in this together, let's help each other; and the other that says, I got mine, you are on your own. One is compassionate; the other is indifferent to the suffering of others. "
" Extremism is marked by a closed mind and a meanness of spirit - unwilling to listen, unwilling to reason, unwilling to compromise, unwilling to forgive, and in the end, unwilling to learn and unwilling to grow. "
" Day by day, action by action (or inaction by inaction), we chart the destiny of the human race. "
" To be on the right side of history is to advocate for the rights and well-being of all people. "
" Misinformation destroys trust. When you destroy trust, you destroy the bonds that hold society together. "
" Education is a life-long process that involves not only formal schooling, but a continual quest to learn and understand what's happening in the world. It is driven by curiosity and a desire to know truth and acquire wisdom. "
" Wise leaders know that serving the best interests of all will lead to a healthy and prosperous society. That's why they work to bring people together, not tear them apart, to serve the common good. "
" If we find ourselves in a moral quandary, we should seek more knowledge, more facts, more evidence and more truth, which will lead us on in its inevitable way to more wisdom. "
" DNA opens an even more mysterious door to understanding the human condition: all of our ancestors live within each one of us whether we are aware of it or not. "
