1 " There is no book like the Qur’an. It quickens hearts and transforms lives, it leads whole people from glory to glory. It is the final answer to man’s eternal, existential quest. For Muslims, it is the ultimate arbiter of their destiny: be it their rise to the heights of glory and civilization or their fall into the bottomless pits of decay and ignominy, it all happens because of how they live with respect to the Qur’an. "
― Khurram Murad , Key to al-Baqarah: The Longest Surah of the Qur'an
2 " the event of the ‘golden calf ’ stands for love of this-worldly things as objects of worship (v. 51). This event happened soon after the great blessing of Bani Israel’s deliverance from the Pharaoh. The Book and the covenant had yet to come. This love, when it competes with and overwhelms the love for Allah, is the root cause of decadence. "
3 " Fear of death and an overpowering love of this-worldly possessions sap and destroy the strength of a community. If people fear death, then death becomes the fate of their community. Those who have no fear of death, life is their destiny. "
