1 " I was just turning away to leave when I noticed a slight distortion in the air in the shape of a hole at the point where Blinky had disappeared. It was so faint you couldn’t see it if you were looking directly at it. You had to kind of catch it out of the corner of your eye. I put my hand in the middle of this distortion and not only did my hand vanish, but I could feel it being sucked down deeper into the hole. I yanked it out, after some effort. Then I put an eye to the hole. Same thing happened. What was going on here? I looked around, found a cat, and experimentally tossed it in. The cat disappeared, and moments later an ancient statue of the cat approving an important law appeared on the street nearby. "

2 " I made an effort to speak: “When I came in here…” I said, “… I had a sandwich.” “That was three months ago,” said the doctor. I looked at him. “It’s gone,” he said, gently. I lapsed back into unconsciousness. "
3 " managed to come up with a plan in just under eight minutes, but after I had examined it from every angle I realized it wasn’t workable in this situation. It required powerful machinery, thousands of experts, a time paradox, a nuclear submarine, a cat, a crowbar, and a birthday cake. And all I had was a mouthful of air and a bad idea. I reluctantly abandoned my plan. "
4 " We were in a cell together in a Colonial prison, along with hundreds of other people from 2010. It wasn’t very comfortable. No beds. No chairs. You just had to sit on the floor in your own filth. And my filth, I noticed, was stupendous. "
