" The man’s voice was soft, but his accent was sharp enough to cut glass, and his laughter washed over me like sunshine. I was intrigued and casually scooted my chair a tiny bit closer because something was drawing me to him. "
― Charlie Novak , Extra Time (Off the Pitch, #2)
" Sometimes, I wondered if I’d ever meet someone else; someone I could share my whole life with. "
" The man looked over at me, an inquisitive look on his face. There were freckles dusting his nose, and his eyes were an intense green, the colour of holly leaves. I couldn’t stop myself from staring because he was the most beautiful person I’d ever seen. "
" Kit’s smile was warm, and something lurched in my stomach, sending little shivers up my spine, which was ridiculous because I’d only just met the man. "
" Kit laughed, shaking his head, and it was such a wonderful sound that it made little waves of happiness curl through me just hearing it. It made me want to laugh too. "
" He had the most adorable dimples when he smiled and soft pink lips that I wanted to lean over and kiss, even though I hardly knew him. "
" I was struck by the sudden urge to give him a hug, to let him know that it would be alright. "
" I wondered if Hugo was smiling. I hoped he was because he had such a beautiful one. It was one of the things I’d noticed about him the other day – how warm and genuine his smile seemed to be – and for some reason I wanted to see him smiling all the time. "
" I laughed, even though I hadn’t meant to. It was the first time I’d really voiced my fears and part of me had been expecting him to tell me it would be fine, but this felt so much more genuine. I don’t know why I was surprised. Kit seemed like the sort of person who’d always tell you what he was thinking. I loved that. "
" I smiled at him, watching him relax. He was so beautiful and unguarded, and it made my stomach feel like it was being tied into knots. What was it about Kit that had me feeling so completely at ease but also more nervous than ever before? "
" He reached out and pulled me into a hug. I clung to him as he wrapped his arm around me, drawing me into his side. His body was a solid, comforting presence and he smelled faintly of sandalwood and vanilla, two things I’d always adored. "
" There was a strange warmth burning inside me, and it was a feeling I couldn’t identify. All I knew was that it had something to do with Hugo… and I wanted to keep feeling it for as long as possible. "
" I’d never known anyone like him, and I was starting to realise my life was brighter with him in it. "
" The smile on David’s face was the biggest I’d ever seen, and suddenly I was being dragged into a giant hug from which there was no escape. Not that I really minded all that much. Instead I clutched at his shirt, taking deep breaths as my feelings clicked into place. "
" He was a sudden ray of sunshine in my grey and cloudy life, lighting up everything around him. "
" Whatever happens between us, I’ll always be here for you. Even if this doesn’t work and we end up as friends, I promise you I’ll still be here. You’re stuck with me now. "
" I loved making Kit smile, loved it when I could make him forget his worries and be genuinely happy. I wanted to spend every moment doing that, so that he never felt lonely or unwanted again. "
" He smiled at me, awakening the butterflies in my stomach. I’d never thought I’d find a smile to be so captivating, but Hugo’s was. Every time he smiled at me my heart stopped, and everything else ceased to exist. Hugo’s smile was the sun at the centre of my universe. "
" Something warm curled in my stomach as Hugo pulled me closer, a growing feeling of warmth and home. "
" I love you, you weirdo. The words were so close to falling off my tongue. I didn’t know where they’d come from, but suddenly there they were. And I knew nothing could be truer: I loved him. "
