" This is Christianity: believing Christ to be everything you need for every moment you live. You live by faith in the Son of God. "
― David Platt , Exalting Jesus in Galatians (Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary)
" The Mosaic Law, with all its ceremonies and rituals and its priesthood and sacrifices, was given until Christ came. It was all a shadow pointing to a substance (Col 2:17). Everything in the law was shouting, “Look to Christ!” As Paul says in Romans 10:4, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness. "
" His pleasure in you is not dependent on your pursuit of Him, but His pursuit of you. "
" Quite literally, Christ became a curse instead of us. "
" Although we can’t earn God’s favor, Scripture does talk about pleasing God. In 2 Corinthians 5:9 Paul says that his aim is “to be pleasing to Him” (cf. 1 Thess 2:4), and he tells believers to have the same purpose (1 Thess 4:1). "
" Galatians reminds us how easily we drift toward both legalism and hypocrisy. On the one hand, we think that by doing good things we earn favor before God, legalism. Then on the other hand, we claim to have the gospel of grace but live just like the rest of the world, hypocrisy. We need to avoid both of these errors, which only the Word can help us do. "
" As a parent, I would also love to “staple on fruit” to my kids. But these virtues must flow from our union with Christ, not from our own behavior modification. We might get our kids’ behavior or our own to improve, but we will not be able to create Christlikeness apart from the Spirit’s work. We all need new hearts. Regenerate people have the power to naturally, holistically, and gradually bear fruit. "
