" We must never allow ourselves to feel condemned. The Christian must never be the dejected in this sense. We are told to examine ourselves. You may say that if you could have in yourself you will feel very miserable. Quite right. But the point is, you must not stay in your misery. "
― D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones , Born of God: Sermons from John, Chapter One
" We must never allow ourselves to feel condemned. The Christian must never be dejected in this sense. We are told to examine ourselves. You may say that if you could have in yourself you will feel very miserable. Quite right. But the point is, you must not stay in your misery. "
" To preach grace and truth to people who have never known condemnation is absolutely fatal. "
" Now many evanglical people have encouraged a disregard for the law. They say 'Don't preach the law any longer. Don't condemn, don't denounce, just say "Come to Christ."' So they have been aiding and abetting this whole tendency to do away with law, which leads to modern chaos. "
" Now the moment the knowledge and the life are separated, we are lost. Yet they are being separated. There are some people who put the whole of their emphasis upon the doctrine, the objectivity, the theology, and they stop at that. But their lives are quite useless...But then a large number, the majority put their emphasis upon the second aspect only and exclude the first. Their whole emphasis is upon life and experience. We are living in a psychological age and we are all so subjective, we are always turning inwards, wanting this and that. "
" So to receive means that you not only know him in the sense of recognizing him and acknowledging him, but you also receive everything and you delighted in the fact that the Son of God has come and done what he has done. Why do you receive him? There is only one answer. The only ones who receive Christ are those who see their need of him. Those who realize their own weakness, their own emptiness, their own sinfulness, take him as he is. They say 'He is just what I want. Someone must die for me. Someone must give me strength and power. He gives me all. "
