" If you don’t have faith in yourself, no one else ever will either. "
― Margaret McHeyzer , Mistrust
" Trust is something that has to be earned. It’s not freely given. There are some people in our lives we automatically trust. We believe everything our parents say and do. We know their actions and instincts are to protect and teach us.We learn to trust those with whom we develop a bond of friendship.Strangers don’t have our trust. We’re wary of them. We keep them at arm’s length until they prove themselves to us.Trust, once earned, can also be ripped away. That can happen over a period of time or in an instant.Tonight, I’ll discover how cruel the world can be when trust is brutally torn away. "

" As I stand under the shower, a realization washes over me. A part of me that died last night. Something was taken from me and I know I didn’t give permission for it to be taken.I know what happened now. I was raped. "
" A pained, muffled cry escapes my swollen lips as I look at the broken girl in the mirror. Her body is heavily bruised. There are marks all over her legs with specks of dried blood stuck to her skin. There are bruises around the base of her neck and on the tops of her arms. She looks beyond broken. She looks destroyed. "
" Splashing cold water on my face, I try and focus on the girl’s reflection in the mirror, but I can’t see her clearly. She’s jumbled and doesn’t look like anything like me. Her face is pasty and white, her eyes are bloodshot and she looks like a shadow of the girl I’m used to seeing. "
