" Prison education is a concept whose time has come. It is time to stop studying the issue and stop discoursing. It is time to start the ball rolling and do something about it. "
― Christopher Zoukis , Education Behind Bars: A Win-Win Strategy for Maximum Security
" For the good of society and America's prisoners, it's time to put Pell grants and other forms of need-based financial assistance back on the table and once again offer in-prison educational and rehabilitative programming to those who seek it. That is the only change we -- as a nation -- have of resolving our current prison crisis. "
" The American prisoner's greatest obstacle to achieving something of importance is a lack of communication with the outside world. When prison administrators manage to cut prisoners off from their families, friends, and outside associates, they gain an impressive level of control over their incarcerated charges. The problem with this is that this lack of communication then hinders prisoners from being productive while in prison and successfully reintegrating back into society upon the conclusion of their term of imprisonment. "
" We have been spending far more for prison institutions than for higher education in the last 20 years. What does that say about our priorities as a nation? "
