Motherdarling really isn't autobiographical. It isn't! The only bit that rings true was that we couldn't find a Will after my mother died (it turned up in the wardrobe - where else?). And I have a sister (but she is nothing like Anne). And the setting is very like where my parents used to live in the Malvern Hills; it really would be possible to walk over the hills into town. But it isn't where we grew up and there are no dark family secrets ... so far as I know.
