In his younger days, Robert Deis worked as a teacher, an artist, a musician, a logger in the Maine woods, a magazine writer, and a state government official. Eventually (by accident rather than design) he fell into a long-lasting career as a political media consultant. Now retired, Bob spends much of his time collecting, writing and publishing books about the men’s adventure magazines (MAMs) that flourished in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. In 2009, he created a popular website about the genre, www.MensPulpMags.com. Several years later he became friends with another MAM fan, Wyatt Doyle, head of the New Texture indie book and CD publishing imprint. Together, Bob and Wyatt co-edit and publish the Men’s Adventure Library series of books that collect classic MAM stories and artwork. Their books currently include WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH!, HE-MEN, BAG MEN, & NYMPHOS, CRYPTOZOOLOGY ANTHOLOGY, A HANDFUL OF HELL, BARBARIANS ON BIKES, I WATCHED THEM EAT ME ALIVE and POLLEN’S WOMEN: THE ART OF SAMSON POLLEN, and CUBA: SUGAR, SEX AND SLAUGHTER. Bob also writes two blogs about famous quotations, www.ThisDayinQuotes.com and www.QuoteCounterquote.com. He lives near Key West with a beautiful wife (who graciously tolerates his piles of old magazines) and their three dogs and four cats.
