David M. Krueger

I’m an independent scholar, author, and educator based in Philadelphia who loves to create and promote educational initiatives that foster public understanding of history and critical reflection on society. As a scholar, I write about American religious history, violence, myths of origin, and popular culture. I received a ThM from Princeton Theological Seminary and a PhD in religion from Temple University. My book, Myths of the Rune Stone: Viking Martyrs and the Birthplace of America, is out with the University of Minnesota Press. Over the past ten years, I have taught at Chestnut Hill College, Palmer Theological Seminary, Temple University, and Rutgers University-Camden. I also serve as an educator and community organizer with Arch Street United Methodist Church. Although I grew up as a farm kid in Minnesota, I have come to love Philly and its neighborhoods since moving here in 1995. Articles and essays I have written have appeared in Religion Dispatches, the Believe Out Loud blog, the Religion in American History blog, and Marginalia: A Los Angeles Review of Books Channel. I conduct author interviews and produce podcasts for Marginalia Radio’s First Impressions program and I’m certified by the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides to offer guided tours of religious and historical sites in the city.
