Glen Shuld

I am a Chicago native and author who tells a story, not unlike my own, of growing up during a time of failed integration in 1970 in the novel "The Color of Character". It took me roughly 10 years to complete this book.

Based on real events, the book tackles the truth of the times, and seeks to begin the conversation that could break us all free from the stigmas and intolerance of those who are different from each one of us, as we are different to them. "The Color of Character" is available in paperback on Amazon and Kindle, and an audio version is now available through Amazon. You can also read an excerpt at www.thecolorofcharacter.com

I have a life-partner, and love city living, but we have a vacation house on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan to find a balance with small town life. Anyone not familiar with the Great Lakes beaches, parks, and towns other than the big cities, should really take the time to explore them It's a hidden treasure to many Americans.

I have always considered myself liberal, or progressive, which is the term I prefer, but lately, the reverse intolerance of the far left has me alarmed and put off. Injustice offends me no matter which direction it comes from.

If you peruse some of the books I've read, I'm a student of certain aspects of history. I'm particularly intrigued by disasters-both natural and man-made. The book I read the most times as a youth is Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember" about the Titanic. Even after the wreckage was found, nothing written about the ship compared to that telling.

There was another book I read as a young guy that had me laughing out loud. I don't think it's in print any longer. It's called "Sheila Levine is Dead and Living in New York," by Gail Parent. Is anyone out there who also remembers this book? I believe it was made into a movie that did not do the book justice.
