" I had to ask myself, Will I continue living the story that people were writing for me, or will I have the strength and courage to go on my own way? I made the decision to write my own story, and I never looked back. "
― Nate Howard , Tell Your Story Before They Do: A guide to winning the battle of you versus you
" Enjoy the journey, embrace your failures, and understand that being imperfect is just a part of life. "
" When you love what you do, you trust the process. "
" Adversity is inevitable, and that’s okay, because you have the courage to be yourself in a world that doesn’t want you to be who you really are. "
" You are powerful beyond measure. The more you remember this, the more you celebrate this life as a blessing, the more courage you’ll have to win the battle within and tell your story. "
" In searching for your story, you might be tempted to look on the outside, expecting people, places, and things to fulfill the chapters of your book. But everything you discover in your story actually comes from within. "
" Having the courage to write who we are will let us liberate not only ourselves, but also countless others. "
" Sometimes our stories have misspellings, or bad syntax and grammar. That’s okay. Our stories are rough drafts, and we’re so hard on ourselves because we think they are final. "
" As a young Black man growing up in the inner city, I had to write my story within the American dream—not asking for a piece of pie, but taking what was mine. "
" The media would tell my story, but they wouldn’t be able to sustain it… If I wanted to speak up against how I was treated, I would have to keep the story going myself. "
" This is what I know: there’s no better thing than to sit with yourself and conquer the you-versus-you battle. "
" When you’re thrown out of your comfort zone, you have only two options: continue to claim the identity that has been a burden to you, or, in the space of uncertainty, write a new story that’s connected to your true essence. "
" The problem with this identity is that I have something deeper I’m trying to identify with, beyond my outer appearance, on a spiritual level. But for that type of identity, I can’t bubble in a mark on a census test. "
" All your experiences up to date have shaped your identity, have given you the power to see who you’re truly becoming. "
" It’s time to take back our identities. "
