" You can never think too much of God, too much of Jesus, and too much of heaven. "
― Owen Strachan , Always in God's Hands: Day by Day in the Company of Jonathan Edwards
" The world is not a neutral place. It is the site of a great war for souls between God and the devil. But the fight is not on equal terms. The Lord is awesome in strength, “mighty against his foes.” When he joins the battle, the battle is over. "
" When God gives us eyes to see the beauty of Christ, we are humbled to the dust. "
" God is not limited by anyone or anything. He doesn’t tremble at challenging circumstances "
" The miracle of Christianity is that no one is beyond the reach of God. Such a location on earth, whether physical or spiritual, simply does not exist. "
" Let us think often of this: Whatever comes our way, Christ will hold us fast. Uncertain as this life is, we know this for certain: He will bring us home. "
" Prayer is not an escape from the world. It will not physically launch us into the heavens (that would make for an interesting church prayer meeting), but it can bring the peace of God to our hearts, causing them to soar. Prayer is the active exercise of trust. In prayer, we hand our cares and hopes to God, and commit them to him. "
" The goal of our lives is not to be made great; the goal of our lives is to lift high the banner of God. "
" Our present walk with Christ is not about having a position, or being listened to by others, or making ourselves great. It is about the simple things: humility, spiritual hunger for God, obeying the Father. "
" Singing is not about performance, really. Singing, and all corporate worship, is remembering, treasuring Christ, and making war on the devil by defying our doubts and declaring God’s praise. "
" Secular universities may have moved on from the great questions of faith, but we need not. No one is holding us back from learning about God. We have every chance to study the Word and to drink deeply of its delicious truth. "
" God is God. He owns all the rights. He does all things well. He deserves our absolute trust. We will not rest by questioning God or by running from him; we will rest when we cease doubting God and walk with him. "
" Not one of us gets to a point where, walking along a forest trail, we stop suddenly and exclaim, “That’s it. I’ve got all the God I can ever gain. I’m full.” No one ever masters God. We pursue him and pursue him, and learn more and more, and fight to obey, every hour we have. "
" Whatever we are deprived of, no one can rip Christ away from us. "
" We mustn’t downplay the importance of prayer. It is even more important than action. "
" The work that we have to do to prepare for eternity must be done in time, or it never can be done. "
" The saints are said to live by Christ living in them (Galatians 2:20). Christ by his Spirit not only is in them, but lives in them; and so that they live by his life; so is his Spirit united to them, as a principle of life in them; they don’t only drink living water, but this living water becomes a well or fountain of water, in the soul, springing up into spiritual and everlasting life (John 4:14), and thus becomes a principle of life in them. RELIGIOUS AFFECTIONS, 1746 "
" Though the sinful human heart despises the things of God, we know that God’s mercy and grace are worth sharing. "
" We have no claim on God; we have no right to demand gifts from his hand. But his hand, we find, is always full, and always reaching out to us, always giving us what we do not merit and could never earn. "
" It was necessary that the Mediator should die for sinners. And if the sinner was saved on his account, it was not possible that that cup should pass from him, because propriety required it. So God will not bestow the benefits of the Mediator on them that are not united to him, because there is no propriety in it. It is not proper that they should have communion with Christ who have no union with him. "
