1 " Faith is the very first thing you should pack in a hope chest. "
― Sarah Ban Breathnach
2 " The very first thing I hear about you is Me ! "
3 " At birth and at dawn for each and every dayit triumphs over the eclipse. It is the very first thing that you see.Its power is blinding at first, anon it opens our eyes to the allure of the world. Each moment it breathes life into us,warms our souls and colors our skin.At gloaming it seems to wane, while it privily awaits a timeto give birth to a new circle of life. "

4 " A Guardian lover is the last thing you need, Wynn Myfanwy, she told herself sternly. Too bad it was the very first thing she wanted. "
― Christine Warren , Hard as a Rock (Gargoyles, #3)
5 " Christians who fail also avoid other Christians, especially when they are feeling bad and guilty in the midst of their failure. It's sad to see this dynamic of the law happen in the church and then see the opposite happen in Twelve Step groups. In these recovery groups, people are taught that the very first thing to do when you fail is to call someone in the group and get to a meeting. They are taught to " run to grace," as it were, to turn immediately to their higher power and their support system. The sad part is that this theology is more biblical than what is practices in many Christian environments, where people in failure run from instead of to God and the people they need. "
6 " Imagine for a just a moment, if you will, that the slaves who were brought to America weren’t dark-skinned. Instead, white people and black people were both the same neutral skin color. The only way that slave holders were able to tell the slaves apart from themselves was by marking them in some manner, like a brand or something. After Abolition, when former slaves had children they were no longer given marks to tell them apart from anyone else. Imagine now that illegal Mexicans who sneak into America in hopes of making a better life for their families are this same neutral skin color, just like “white” people and “black” people. There is no concrete way to tell them apart from anyone else except that they might sound different. But once they have children who sound just like everyone else there is no concrete way to tell them apart from the “natives.” As human beings, we naturally find ways to categorize ourselves. The very first thing that we do when we see a person is compare their appearance to our own. We use an internal ranking system. Maybe it’s time to consciously abandon our internal ranking system. The only way to achieve true equality is through colorblindness. Let’s try a little harder and see what happens. "
