1 " It is said that power corrupts, but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power. "
― David Brin
2 " Give me a shot to rememberAnd you can take all the pain away from meA kiss and I will surrenderThe sharpest lives are the deadliest to leadA light to burn all the empiresSo bright the sun is ashamed to rise and beAnd I'm in love with all of those vampiresSo you can leave like the sane abandoned me "

3 " Kaysen elaborates through parts of the book on her thoughts about how mental illness is treated. She explains that families who are willing to pay the rather high costs of hospitalization do so to prove their own sanity. Once one member of the family is hospitalized, it becomes easier for the rest of the family to distance themselves from the problem and to create a clear boundary between the sane and the insane. Recognizing a family member or friend as insane makes others around them, says Kaysen, compare themselves to that individual. Hospitalization allows for distance from this questioning of self that makes us so uncomfortable. Her view that mental illness often includes the entire family means the hospitalized family member becomes an excuse for other family members not to look at their own problems. This explains the willingness to pay the high financial costs of hospitalization. "
― Susanna Kaysen , Girl, Interrupted
4 " It's said that 'power corrupts,' but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power. When they do act, they think of it as service, which has limits. The tyrant, though, seeks mastery, for which he is insatiable, implacable. "
― David Brin , The Postman
5 " Like the 'good' characters in literature, the sane don't have any memorable lines. "
6 " I no longer follow the voices of the sane. I follow the ill because they see farther, feel much more and change what the sane will not. This is the paradox of philosophers---trying to understand mass delusion among great people that have faith and knowledge, yet they can’t graduate from their institutions of religious theology to apply the knowledge they have gained for the shifting of Zion---- from words to action; from comfort to uncomfortable; from self serving to self giving; from competition to supporting; to tradition to unity; from bias to acceptance; from me to us. "
― Shannon L. Alder
7 " What a paradox it is, the sane causes more problems than the insane! It is! The real problems of the world do not come from the insane but, the sane! "

8 " It's like there was a fellow in every man that's done a-past the sanity or the insanity, that watches the sane and the insane doings of that man with the same horror and the same astonishment. "
― William Faulkner , As I Lay Dying
9 " A difference between the sane and the insane is not just about appearance or attitude but the usage of time. "
10 " It is impossible for the sane to truly understand madness. "
― Lance Conrad , The Price of Loyalty (The Historian Tales, #3)
11 " Are not the sane and the insane equal at night as the sane lie a dreaming? "
― Charles Dickens
12 " The only difference between the sane and the insane is that the sane have the power to lock up the insane. "
