They believed and spread the narrative that Jim Crow segregation was a Republican thing, and that rich white men were the lone and total group Republicans actually cared about. I, along with everyone else I knew, had been robbed of the right to find out what we truly believed. I had been denied that opportunity by my own family, neighbors, friends, teachers, and even pastors.

What’s more, we had been encouraged to act in a particular way because of these lies, offering Democrats our votes and support.

The Democrats had effectively influenced the black community for decades using this narrative. And they still are. "
